He is best known for the production of Gone with the Wind (1939) and Rebecca (1940), both earn him an Academy Award for Best Picture . early life Born in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, he was the son of Florence Anna (Sachs) and silent film producer and distributor Louis J. Selznick. His parents were Ukrainian Jews, and they had four siblings. His father was born in Kiev in 1870. Selznick added "O" to separate himself from the same uncle. He studied at Columbia University in New York City and worked as a trainee for his father until he became big bankrupt in 1923. In 1926, Seljonic went to Hollywood, and with the help of his father's connection, he got a job as assistant story editor in Metro-Goldwyn-Mayer.
