BCCI will conduct media rights auction of bilateral series, Jio also waist

Six media companies, including Star, Sony, Geo, Facebook and Google, will bid for e-auction tomorrow for media rights of the domestic cricket team of the domestic cricket team. BCCI will conduct bidding process for these media rights through e-auction for the first time in Mumbai in Mumbai. This right will be for five years from April 2018 to March 2023. The e-auction process will replace BCCI's traditional 'closed bid' in auction model (in sealed envelope).
The Cricket Administrators' Committee thinks that online bidding is a transparent way to know the competitive price. BCCI has divided media rights into three specific categories, including first-world television rights (the rest of the world except India) digital rights package, second - the Indian sub-continent digital rights package and the third-complete complete package. For the 2018-19 season, the initial bid for global television and the rest of the world digital rights will be Rs 35 crores per match.
Eight crore rupees for the Indian subcontinent, whereas for the entire global package the bid will start from Rs 43 crore per match. For the 2019-2023, the starting price of the match will be Rs 33 crore, seven crore for the Indian subcontinent and Rs 40 crore for the global package. During this period (in the next five years), the Indian team will play around 22 Tests, 42 one-day internationals and 38 T20 internationals on home soil. For television broadcasting rights, there is the possibility of bidding Yapp TV with stars, Sony and Geo, while Facebook and Google can bid for digital rights. Star, Soni and Geo are also increasing their expansion in the digital market and in such a situation, global ambitions will not be surprised if they speak out.

Star has already bought the most prestigious media property of Indian cricket for the rights of the IPL for Rs 16,347 crore. Star also has the rights of ICC tournaments, including the World T20 (Men and Women), Men's and Women's 50-over World Cup and Champions Trophy. A BCCI official said, "After getting the IPL Media rights, it will be interesting to see how excited the star will be for these rights. Sony will also be eager to achieve these rights as it is necessary for any broadcasters to remain in existence that they have media rights of the Indian team. Geo can prove to be a hidden rostum because they can also get into the broadcasting area by getting TV rights.

Facebook had made a huge bid of Rs 3,600 crore for the digital rights of IPL but it lagged behind the star which acquired this right with a full bid. Though Sony and Star are unhappy that the BCCI has ignored the status of the opposition team and kept the minimum bid for each match. The board, however, has not lost its stance, which believes that it is a strategy to put pressure on potential bidders.
