Independence Day is a day when people give tribute to their leaders in India and those who fought for India's independence in the past. The period of Independence Day is a time when the principal government buildings are illuminated by the lights and homes and other buildings, with the tricolor fluttering. In the broadcast, print and online media, there can be special events, programs and articles to promote the day. Films about freedom fighters of India are also shown on television. 
On the eve of Independence Day, the President provides the nation "the address of the nation". The Prime Minister of India hovers the flag of India and gives speeches at the Red Fort of Old Delhi. Flag bounce ceremonies and cultural events are organized in state capitals and often involve many schools and organizations. 
Many people spend days with family members or close friends. They can eat a picnic in a park or private garden, go to a movie or eat lunch or dinner at home or in the restaurant. Others fly kites or sings or listen patriotic songs.
Independence Day is a gazetted holiday in India on August 15 of each year. National, state and local government offices, post offices and banks are closed on this day. Stores and other businesses and organizations can close or reduce early hours. 
Public transport is generally unaffected because many local people travel for festivals but there can be huge traffic and security in areas where there are celebrations. The struggle for independence of India began in 1857 with the Sepoy Rebellion in Meerut. Later, in the 20th century, the Indian National Congress and other political organizations under Mahatma Gandhi started the nationwide freedom movement. Colonial powers were shifted to India on August 15, 1947. 
The Constituent Assembly, whose power was to be relocated, on August 14, 1947 at 11 o'clock, to celebrate India's independence. India attained its independence and became an independent country between mid-August 14 and August 15, 1947, midnight. Then it was that Pandit Jawaharlal Nehru, the first Prime Minister of Free India gave his famous "Taste with Destiny" speech. People all over India are reminded of the meaning of this incident - that they marked the beginning of the new era of salvation from British colonialism in India for more than 200 years.
 
Kite flying game symbolizes Independence Day. The sky is scattered along with countless kites growing from the roof and fields to symbolize India's independent spirit of India. Kites of various styles, sizes and colors, including the triangle, are available in the market plains. The Red Fort in Delhi is also an important Independence Day symbol in India because it is where Indian Prime Minister Jawaharlal Nehru unveiled the flag of India on August 15, 1947. 
The national flag of India is a horizontal triangle of deep Saffron (Kesari) on the top, white in the middle and deep green is in equal proportion below. Length of the width of the flag its length is two to three. The white band represents a navy-blue wheel cycle in the center of the band. Its design is of that wheel which appears on Abacus of Ashok's Sarnath Lion Capital. Its diameter is approximate to the width of the white band and it has 24 spokespersons.
