It is celebrated in various states of India like: Bihar, UP, Jharkhand and Nepal According to the Hindu calendar, these Kartik Mahani (in October and November) are celebrated on the sixth day.
In some places Chaitri Chotha is celebrated in the month of Chaitra (March and April) a few days after Holi. Its name is Chhath because it is celebrated on the sixth day of Kartik month. History and Origin of Chhath Puja
Chhath Puja holds great importance in Hindu religion and is such a belief that the King (who was the King) was requested to come from the old priests and to perform traditional worship of Lord Sun. They worshiped the sun god by reciting mantras and sources from ancient Rig Veda. Ancient Chatha Puja was done by Pandavas and Draupadi of Hastinapur (New Delhi) to solve their problems and regain their kingdom.
It is also believed that Chhath Puja was started by the sun son Karna. He was a great warrior during the Mahabharata war and was the ruler of Angeng (Bihar's Munger district).
On the day of Chhath Puja, the sixth Maaya (the wife of Lord Sun) is also worshiped, and sixth Maaya is also known in the Vedas as the name of Usha. Usha means morning (the first ray of the day). In addition to removing their problems, people pray to the sixth maya for salvation or liberation.
The second historical story behind Lord Rama is to Lord Rama. It is believed that after 14 years of exile, when Lord Rama and mother Sita came back to Ayodhya after performing rituals during fasting, Lord Krishna worshiped in the Shukla side of Kartik month. From that time onwards, Chhath Puja became an important and traditional festival of Hindu religion and people started celebrating that date every year.

Long ago, there was a king whose name was beloved, and his wife was Malini. They lived happily but there was a lot of sadness in their life that they had no children. With the help of Maharishi Kashyap, he decided to make a big sacrifice for the blessings of the children. His wife became pregnant due to the influence of sacrifice. But after 9 months, he gave birth to a dead child. The king was very unhappy and he decided to commit suicide.
